MARTINSBURG — Ralph and Edith Powell of Martinsburg celebrated their 75th anniversary in drive-thru style as many friends and family members drove by with signs, balloons, waves and horn honking.

The celebration took place Tuesday evening, Aug. 10, on New York Avenue where the couple has resided since 1960. Even a vintage firetruck drove by with its bell and siren sounding in celebration. The couple sat on their front porch as vehicles passed and then they greeted many who stopped to give their best wishes.

The Powells, both 94 years of age, have been part of the Martinsburg community all their lives. They were married at the First U. B. Church of Martinsburg in 1946.
